Baptism is the first of seven sacraments and the way in which a person becomes a member of the Catholic Church.
To assist in the preparation of your child’s Baptism:
1) Please contact Ann Nelson at the parish office, 303-988-2222, to register for baptism for your child and further direction regarding the process.
2) Signed and returned forms from parents and godparents as well as completion of baptism preparation is required prior to scheduling of the date and time for baptism.
3) If registered in another parish written permission will be needed from that Parish to baptize at COTM.
4) There is no fee for Baptism, a stipend(free-will) offering is left to conscience of the parents or godparents.
Requirements for Godparents:
Please consider these requirements when choosing godparents.
Godparents stand as representatives of the Catholic Church during the celebration of baptism but also provide the parents with support in raising their children in the Catholic faith. Traditionally there are two godparents, one male and one female, but only one Catholic godparent is required. A Catholic godparent must meet the following requirements:
1) Must be fully initiated into the Catholic church having received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.
2) Must be at least 16 years old.
3) Is not the parent of the child to be baptized.
4) Must be a practicing Catholic attending Mass regularly.
5) If Married, must be married in the Catholic Church.
If single, must be living according to Church teaching.
6) Must have attended a baptism preparation class within the last 2 years.
7) Each godparent will be required to attest to and sign a Godparent/Sponsor Eligibility Form in the presence of a priest.
8) If there is only one Catholic godparent, a baptized, practicing, non-Catholic Christian my serve as a Christian Witness.
